Half a month!
It's hard to believe, but little Asha Ruby has now been with us for half a month. In some ways, the time seems to have gone by very quickly. However, at the same time we can hardly believe all the events and changes that have happened during that time.
Asha seems to change a little bit each and every day. She was weighed again last week at the pediatrician's and had grown back past her birth weight to a healthy 8 lbs and 10 oz. Unfortunately, while at the pediatrician's, we also had to witness her second PKU test which involves drawing blood through a heel prick. Needless to say, it was not popular with little Asha and it made Mama and Papa very happy that she is otherwise for the most part a very peaceful child (so far at least!).
Our sweet one is definitely becoming more and more physically and mentally active. She is spending more time in the "quiet alert" state and is starting to observe people and objects in her surroundings more directly. She especially likes to kick out her heels one after the other like little pistons, so much so that Papa has been known to call her "little jackhammer" on occasion. She also has been trying to hold up her head more often, but is usually only successful for a few seconds before flopping back down. Here's a nice shot of her being in "quiet alert" courtesy of Opa Ken:

Asha's main source of fussiness these days seems to come when she is feeling gassy. She can sometimes show the unmistakable signs and sounds of strain for quite some time before finally being relieved. Mama and Papa are always pleased to change her after all that struggling! We are trying a number of things to help ease the discomfort such as bouncing in various positions, massage and wiggling her hips. Our latest strategy (suggested by Ama Lynette) is to give her a herbal remedy called gripe water. We've got our fingers crossed that it will help!
As for mama, Leanne is doing well on her road to recovery. She has been feeling like 'The Incredible Shrinking Woman' lately, in fact at her 2 week check up with our midwife Sally, we found out that she is already within 10 lbs of her pre-pregnancy weight! (Papa was given direct orders to ensure she keeps up the calorie intake...) Other than that, Sally was very pleased with how she is progressing and will check on her again at 6 weeks.
Here is another great shot of the two of them, again taken by Opa Ken.
